Leyden was a warrior in Heortland during the Dawn Age. The warriors of Elmal had
followed the orders of their god directly before the dawn, but after the dawn
they had to learn to live without their god's direct supervision. At first, each
warrior fought in his own manner, and their enemies would surround them and cut
them down individually. Leyden is said to have performed the first heroquest to
Elmal, and came back with the secrets of the shield wall. Leyden's cult is
generally known only in Heortland and Sartar, however it is suppressed in areas
under Lunar occupation.
Entry requirements: The cult is open to Elmali worshippers.
Prevalence: The subcult of Leyden forms a single mercenary company of
about 750 men. It has served in both Sartar and the Holy Country. It is
considered an outlaw regiment by the Lunar authorities.
Physical skills: Shield Push
Mental skills: Maneuver troops, Organize Shield Wall.
Virtues: none
Affinity:
Shield Wall Combat (Rally Warriors, Shields of One, Strength of the Sun,
Unstoppable Step)
Secret: none
Sacrifices: Shields taken from enemies defeated in battle.
Manifestations: Leyden is depicted as a typical Heortling warrior armed
with a large shield and spear.
Other Side: Leyden is a Hearth-companion in Elmal's hall.
Other Connections: The cult of Leyden is accepted in most rebel circles
as fellows-in-arms.
Acts of Devotion: Never break the Shieldwall.
Holy Days: Leyden worshippers celebrate Elmal's holy days, and add a
remembrance celebration on Freeze day/Illusion Week/Earth Season - the
anniversary of Leyden's death.
Disadvantages: The cult of Leyden is suppressed by the Lunar Authorities.
